Skipping a Pound of Sodium Across a Lake

Awesome. Sometimes I really wish I didn't have such crappy chemistry teachers in high school. My interest in chemistry and mathematics took until after college to recover.

I bet there was a big fish dinner that night.

Amazing! I do vaguely remember something like this in science class...

Yeah there was a lot of opportunities to engage students with some awesome science but teachers were/are lazy (possibly because they're not paid enough). Our chemistry teacher was a bio major and hated chemistry.

I remember quite liking General Science at school - it covered (slightly) all the disciplines, and we saw some good physics/chemistry stuff like burning magnesium strips, collapsing a tin can with a vacuum, and watching radioactive particles in a cloud chamber thing. I did not mind plant biology, but drew the line at dissecting animals - even the thought of now makes me slightly queasy - and I left school in 1972... I did go to college, but only for a year - I was never happy there - the sciences etc were just fine, but the maths side was hideous: Calculus and me remain strangers to this day...
